Molly Gowen, MA, HDip in Ed, DMS


Molly is a poet, folklorist and visual artist. She was born in Youghal, Co. Cork, Ireland and lived in the UK from 1984 to 2000.

A career in Education Training and Management led to a literary career that began in 1993 with the publication of:

  • The Celtic Tree Year – Townhouse Countryhouse
  • The Celtic Animal Year – Townhouse Countryhouse

Molly subsequently wrote extensively on local history and folklore for the East Anglian Daily Times, The Irish Post and The Suffolk Journal.

1998 brought the publication of a further two volumes:

  • Fairies in the Irish Tradition – Capall Bann
  • Transmigration – Fields of Youghal

2010 saw the publication of After Lorca – Ainnir Publishing, a work dedicated to her sister Anne who passed away in 1996. Anne had introduced Molly to the work of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936).

The following year brought a children’s book entitled The Dragons of Jelly Mountain, telling the story of Dandelion the dragon and her adventures in the volcano on Jelly Mountain.

Following on from After Lorca, Molly published The Rose and The Snow, selected poems by Lorca, in 2015. The book was translated and illustrated by Molly herself.

Molly regularly performs her poetry.

Mollly now lives in Galway
